If you need joy
Your words are what sustain me; they are food to my hungry soul. They bring joy to my sorrowing heart and delight me. How proud I am to bear your name, Oh Lord. Jeremiah 15:16
Reflection:
The verse implies to me that God’s words should be food for my/your hungry soul. They can also bring joy to our sorrowing hearts and delight as they did to Jeremiah. And besides, we should also be proud to bear God’s name.
It tells me that not only our body suffer hunger when it is deprived of food, our soul too can deteriorate if we don’t feed them with the WORD of God. Like our body can suffer if we eat unhealthy foods, likewise, our souls too can be polluted if we feed our souls with worldly things. Humans mostly seek happiness from this world, but the real joy is seeking God’s kingdom. To be in God’s kingdom gives joy to our heart no matter how sorrowful our life’s situations is.
I learned that no matter if I am persecuted, not in the popular crowd, and especially when I feel alone, with God I am completely taken care of.
Although being a Christian is not popular nowadays, but I am proud to be one. I am happy to be the daughter of the King of Kings and the Lord of lords. The daughter of the Creator of everything. A loving and faithful God.
It strikes me also that like God’s words, human words have power, so I/you need to use them wisely. Positive and beautiful words can cure and boost a person’s spirit whether one says it to oneself or others. It is also important to always says the truth because it is not good for one’s reputation to be called a liar. And also, it is important to how we convey our message to the world. Our words can change my/your life. Words can encourage people to attain more in life than being passive. My/your words can assist and even help someone who is in agony or hurting. It can develop, sustain, and motivate my/your loved ones.
On the other hand, if I/you say words with loathing, agitation, annoyance, bitterness, and bad critics or insulting, it can shatter and tear down other’s hearts and make the condition worse for everyone. Relationships will not be built in between people if I/you will not be careful with words.
How about my/your reaction to other’s words?
Sometimes we can lose our control especially if someone says bad things to us. Gossips that are not true, or if we have been judged unfairly. But it helps to express ourselves calmly, and with understanding. God said that vengeance is His, so no matter what others say to us, we should let God handle the situation. It also helps to stop and take a breath or count to 100 before we speak when we are in that kind of situation.
Lately, I received a comment in my blog with words full of hate, but I just felt sorry for the person and I prayed instead that this person will have a good life so that his/her heart will not be full of hate.
What I /you should keep in my mind is that we have the responsibility for the words we speak so we must always mind what we are saying.
I/ you need to select words that are useful, with care and affection, healing, motivational, and uplifting. Positive words will transform my/your life and the lives of those around us. We can help to produce a positive environment wherever we are if we pay attention to our words. Saying positive words to ourselves and others is an important thing in building our self-esteem.
I remember when I am self-studying math to finish college, I wrote positive words in my math books like “ I love numbers”, “ I can do it ” and the likes. And it helped me to achieve my goals.
Application:
I learned from this passage that I should be careful with what I put in my mind because it will come out of my mouth. So, my words should be God-inspired and positive. My mind is like a garden bed, therefore I will plant positive seeds that come from the Word of God so that I will flourish.
Prayer: Dear God, I thank You for the reminder of how important it is to be careful with our words. Thank You that Your Words sustains us. It is joy and delight to our hearts. I pray for us your children to always speak the truth in love. To be humble, to be patient, and to endure. Let us always be proud of who we are in You and in bearing Your name. Always speak the truth and live after the truth. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen
What makes you joyful?
