Walking on the water

Walking on the water

Matthew 14:25-33 25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Reflection: In this chapter, Jesus did a miracle. He walked on water. He could do that because He was and is the Son of God although he was clothed in human form.

In this life, we will encounter many storms and we will meet people that can make us afraid. Even so, we need to remind ourselves of Jesus’ words to the disciples: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

And if we step out of the boat, (our comfort zones) like Peter, we should continue looking at Jesus, not around us where there are chaos, troubles, temptations, disturbances, problems, and so on. So when we are on the brink of drowning or exhaustion, remember that Jesus can reach out and save us from falling or drowning like Peter.

The disciples had seen a lot of miracles that Jesus did, but still, Jesus said that they have little faith. We may think that there are no miracles that are happening in our lives although we believe in God, pray, and read His Word.

Well, I believe life itself is a miracle. And all that God had created that surround us are miracles. And if we just open our eyes to every detail in our bodies, like how we are created and how all things are created, we will see that God really is a powerful God that can do anything.

I need to remind myself of those things so that I can always be thankful and trust God especially when life’s difficulties overwhelm me.

This passage tells me that like Peter, we too can do things by faith, but along the way, we can doubt especially when circumstances seem to get worse than better. However, we need to believe that Jesus can reach out and help us too like He did with Peter. And to build our faith, we need to listen and listen to Jesus’ words: ““Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

God’s words are written in the Book of Life. Meditating on God’s Words makes us equipped for everyday battles in our lives. As it is written in Joshua 1:8  Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, I pray that no matter what our troubles are, we will continue to look unto Thee and have faith. I thank You for the reminder not to doubt. But to be courageous and trust in You. Fill us the joy and the desire to meditate Thy Words daily so that we will have faith that surpasses all storms in our lives and that You will always be our anchor. Amen
